What is the difference between a Primo Grill and a gas or charcoal grill?

There are two main differences: A. Primo Grills are ceramic and act like an insulator to hold in the heat and retain the natural moisture of food, so foods are incredibly juicy. Metal grills radiate heat and pull moisture from the food. B. Primo Grills can be used as a grill, an oven, a roaster, and a smoker. Simply adjust the cooking configuration and air flow.

What kind of charcoal should I use in my Primo Ceramic Grill?

Only natural lump charcoal should be used. Primo Natural Lump Charcoal is made from whole stock hardwood. It gives food a natural wood fire flavour, burns clean, and burns longer than briquette charcoal. Also, natural lump charcoal can be relit for multiple cookings. We don't recommend briquette charcoal because it cannot achieve high temperatures or extended burn times. “Instant light” charcoal fumes will be absorbed by the ceramics and it will give food a chemical or fuel taste.

How do I clean my Primo Ceramic Grill?

Primo grills are self-cleaning. The interior will blacken, but it does not need to wiped off. To clean the grill and main grate of food residue, heat the grill to 600°F+ for 30 minutes. The exterior can be cleaned with soap and water or a household cleaner.

Will the ceramic of a Primo Grill crack under extreme heat, cold or rain?

No. Primo ceramics are very sturdy and there is no danger of cracking due to extreme temperatures or rain. Do not pour water into the grill while it is hot to extinguish the lit charcoal.

What kind of surface should I put my Alfa Pizza Oven onto?

The table top range of Alfa Pizza Ovens can rest on any flat and level surface.

Do Alfa Pizza Ovens come in different colours?

Depending on which Alfa Pizza Oven you opt for, there may be range of colours to select from, for example the 5 Minuti is available in Red as well as Copper. The technical details for your chosen pizza oven will show you the range of colours that are available, or you can call our customer service team on 01732 884030 and they will be happy to advise you.

Do Pizza Ovens create smoke?

It depends on a few factors. First, we must make an initial distinction between the types of ovens. The ovens produced by Alfa Pizza can be wood-fired, gas (LNG) or gas (LPG). In gas ovens there is smoke, but it is invisible and odourless. Emissions of these ovens are comparable to those produced by a common wall boiler. With wood-burning ovens, in normal combustion the smoke production is limited. Normal conditions of combustion are those in which the wood is well aged, of good quality (like that in our Kit Legnapronta) and free of dirt (i.e. soil), the fuel is placed sufficiently towards the bottom part of the oven, the air supply (combustion) inside the combustion chamber is adequate and the flame is alive. The presence of moisture in the fuel typically causes the appearance of white intense smoke; the white is due to the steam generated by the water content of the wood that evaporates due to the heat. An insufficient supply of air instead does not allow optimum combustion and generates smoke of a darker colour; in this case the dark colour is given by unburned fuel particles.

What kind of wood is best to use in your Wood-Fired Pizza Oven?

The best wood for cooking is oak or beech as many other woods generate little heat when burnt. The ideal is to combine them together. You use the oak to reach the oven temperature and beech for cooking. The beech belongs to the category of hard wood or the wood that has a weight (when dried) of about 700 kilograms per cubic meter. The aroma is very intense and mix it with that of oak will give the food a special flavour.

How do I fire up a Wood-Fired Pizza Oven?

To heat your Pizza Oven, make a castle of dry wood in the centre and light, leave for 15-20 minutes to reach desired temperature, move wood to one side then add your food! To maintain heat of 300°-350°C (ideal for direct cooking eg Pizzas), add one log every 10 minutes. To maintain heat of 200°-250°C (ideal for indirect cooking eg Meat, Veg and Bread), add one log every 15-20 minutes. You can also use the door to reduce temperature (by opening) or increase temperature (by closing).

Do Alfa Pizza Ovens require construction?

Alfa Pizza Ovens arrive to your home almost ready for use. Complete the oven by merely inserting the flue. If your chosen Pizza Oven includes a trolley, this can be assembled with a few screws.
